Joanna's main performing is with the viol consort Fretwork. In the last few years this has included travelling across Europe and the UK by electric car and train to play in France, Belgium, Spain Germany, Austria and Ireland. In addition Fretwork regularly tours the the US and Canada, playing at venues including the Library of Congress and the Carnegie Hall.
Fretwork has a busy recording schedule, mainly for Signum Records. Recent releases include our disc of Lupo fantasias, awarded a Diapason D’Or, Tom & Will, a collaboration with the Kings Singers featuring the music of Weelkes and Byrd, a disc of Arvo Pärt we made with Sansara, and My Days, a disc of Gibbons and Nico Muhly released to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Gibbons’ death in 1625. Future releases include a disc of Jenkins’ virtuoso consort music due for release in September 2025. Joanna has also been a regular at the Shakespeare's Globe theatre, most recently performing in Henry V in the 2022-23 season. On a smaller scale Joanna enjoys playing solo repertoire and baroque and classical viola da gamba sonatas, the beautiful tone quality of the viol is showcased in her programme for viol and harpsichord, 'Meet the Viol' |
